Our Women in Data Academy has been designed to help prepare women for a career in data science. Over the 7-week programme, our students are supported through an accelerated learning pathway, covering modules such as Python, R, Data Science, Python Libraries, Databases and Big Data.

As our latest cohort completed the academy, we caught up with one of the graduates, Francesca, to find out more about her experience of our Women in Data Academy and her advice to future students.

What were you doing before you started the course?

Prior to joining TechTalent Academy’s Women in Data Academy, I had just finished a BSc degree in Mathematics.

Why did you decide to join our Women in Data Academy?

I’ve always been interested in the data industry therefore wanted to develop skills that would help me in the future. The syllabus covered every aspect of data I wanted to learn particularly Python, R and Machine Learning.

How did the training help you?

The training and support I received during the academy was  exceptional. I found the lessons exciting and informative and the practical tasks gave me a great opportunity to practice the skills I had developed. It also helped me understand what areas of Data I enjoy and am best suited to. I completed the course feeling excited to start a career in Data!

What was your favourite module?

My favourite module was Python Fundamentals as I had previously touched on Python during my degree. This module allowed me to develop a thorough understanding of the different aspects of Python and apply it to tasks that were relevant to real life.

What are your plans for the future?

I am due to start a Graduate Management Scheme this October and look forward to using my new programming skills to make an impact within the business. After completing this, my aim is to secure a job as a Data Analyst, so I’ll continue to develop my skills and knowledge to ensure they remain up to date.

What’s your advice for people who want to learn code?

My advice would be to use this academy to find out what areas of Data you enjoy. It gives a great overview of the many different aspects of Data so use this to figure out what you prefer. Writing code with Data that interests you will make it easier to pick up and help it stick.

You don’t need any prior experience to join our academy, our trainers will provide you with all of the information you need to embark on a career in data.
